Internet Explorer Image Resizing

The Arch Rock Cottage website includes some large images in order to provide the best view and the most information. For example in the large map of Dalhousie you can read the street names.

However, Internet Explorer defeats this aim when it resizes images to make them fit in the current window. If you can always see the entire image in Internet Explorer, and the image changes size as you resize the window, then Internet Explorer is not allowing you to see the full size image.

In order to see full size images:
  • Configure Internet Explorer to not resize images:
    1. Under the "Tools" menu item, select "Internet Options ..."
    2. Select the "Advanced" tab
    3. Scroll down to the "Multimedia" section
    4. Uncheck the "Enable Automatic Image Resizing" option
    5. Be sure to "Refresh" the current web page in order to use the new setting.
These instructions are for Version 6 of Internet Explorer. If you have a different version then your procedure may be different.

  • Download images and view on your computer. Right click on an image and select the "Save Picture As ..." menu item. Select a location on your computer then click the "Save" button. Now you may use Microsoft Photo Editor, Microsoft Paint, or some other viewer to see the full size image. A good choice for an image viewer is ACDSee (www.acdsystems.com).

  • Use Netscape or another browser that doesn't resize large images.
